I made it! Not only did I make it but I made it through day 31 and didn't break until I had my organic beer after work. I've got all these great left-overs in the fridge and I am having my first green tea (caffeine) as I write this.Full disclosure, I had half the bottle and put it away. I was already starting to feel a bit swimmy!
I'm not going to be going back to store bought coconut milk I can tell you that right off the top. Man home made tastes like a dream and is cheaper to boot! I can whip up a batch while breakfast is cooking and by the time my chicory root tea is ready and breakfast is on the table I'm pouring the coconut milk from blender to tea cup. (Which is what I did this morning!)
I feel like the scrubbing bubbles guys got to my insides. I feel lighter and just cleaner. It's hard to describe.
I didn't lose weight, tho for those of you who know me I've been the same weight since high school. Things have shifted but it always seems to even out. In my hard core work out days I'm leaner but muscle weighs more than fat, and in my lazy days well... so weight loss wasn't a goal for me, in fact that would be a bad sign.
I did have a rough patch of skin smooth out, and have gotten positive comments on my complexion from my girl friends and clients. It was wonderful to hear, we are our own worst critics.
- My SUGAR totals: I know this is the part that most people say they can't do. I wanted to make this as hard core as I could with out losing my mind so originally I decided to allow myself raw honey, maple syrup, and molasses, oh and stevia. A banana a day, and up to 5 figs or dates a day.
❧ I definitely used up my allotted bananas figs and dates everyday especially in the first two weeks, after that I didn't feel the need for them as much and didn't want to take the container to bed with me :)
❧ I used about 1 ts of raw honey the whole month, I had tea with honey 2x which was just a little dip of the spoon, and about 1/2 the ts went in the buckwheat breakfast that took me three days to finish. I just double checked in my jar and yep, maybe not even a whole teaspoon. I'm gonna take a little pat on the back for that.
❧ I used about 1 tbs molasses in my orange cake, and a tsp in sweet potatoes at the two week mark when I was dying for something sweet.
❧ I used the maple syrup in the fudge for the dinner party at the very end, I ate maybe 5 of the little guys over the course of the Monday ;) no use lying now!
This cleanse did take some planning and extra time this month. I fell into a good rhythm of cooking twice a week for a few days worth of supplies. Having no preservatives in my food made it so I needed to freeze extras immediately. The first week when things started to all go bad at once I had a little wake up call. I knew I was going to have to make things in smaller batches or make less. I also learned to use things better. When I had to much coconut milk I made coconut sweet potato mash. I got creative, and have a few more ideas where I can use up extra coconut milk I didn't even get to make this month. Future posts for sure!
This was a great way for me to clean out the crap in my kitchen and revamp it into a healthier and healing kitchen. Now every meal is not just food on a plate but preventative medicine. It's not just fuel but rocket fuel. I'm interested to see how far I can take this and to use this opportunity to slowly re-introduce certain foods to my diet. I'd like to see what affects me and how. For instance I can't wait to try some cheese. I don't do dairy very often but cheese has always been my dairy weakness, I'm wondering if I'll notice a change in my digestion when I try it again. I'm going to careful try different things one at a time and see how they feel.
The beer I had last night for instance, I feel just a tad hung over this morning! I guess I did clean my liver out. It's great to know that I have cleaned out my body to the point that just a dab will do me. I'm gonna be a cheap date!
I really encourage any one who wants to give something like this, maybe not as extreme, a try. If you want help contact me. In addition to the 6 month program, I offer a one month cleanse program. I'd love to support you and help you achieve that scrubbing bubble feeling!
