Well I've officially made it thru 7 days of this cleanse! Yea!
I started my day after morning pages and tai chi with a very green drink at Sustain. I'm looking forward to buying my own juicer one day but until that day Brian's oasis in downtown LA keeps me going!
I had some sweet potato soup for breakfast with a slice of the amazing bread. After today there will be no more bread and I think that's ok. It's been a long time since I've had a fresh loaf of bread that I needed to consume before it spoiled. Typically I have a small loaf of sprouted bread that lives in the fridge. This was quite a treat but I'm going to go back to my whole grains in other forms. Unless I get to take some to a dinner party where I can enjoy it and then leave it to be enjoyed by others!
The sweet potato soup is soooo easy to make:
2 sweet potatoes cut up into chunks. Try and make them equal sized chunks.
3 tiny baby potatoes. These were from my CSA box, you could use more less or none.
4 cups stock. I used half veggie stock from my last batch and pulled some turkey bone stock from the freezer. Add enough stock to cover.
Optional: coconut milk, or organic high quality milk (raw?!)
Bring to boil and simmer until sweet potatoes are soft. Depending on size this could take an hour or two. Just poke with your fork until it's easy to spear the little guys and you're ready! Let it cool a bit then put it in the blender. At this point you can be done or if you want extra creamy factor then add the coconut milk until it's the consistency you crave.
It's going in the blender so don't stress about how long it's cooking, in fact I cooked mine til the potatoes were falling apart. Then I just turned off the stove put a lid on it and left it there til I was ready. Blended soups are low maintenance and great to make while your in the kitchen already. On top of that your body loves soup! It's easy to digest and you get more of the vitamins and minerals this way.
I've finished writing up some recipe cards for the Farmers Market tour and printing out dirty dozen cheat sheets. I'm off to have a little lunch and get my bags in the car. See you after dinner!
I do have to admit to one thing: At the market they were giving out samples of balsamic on tiny pieces of white bread and with out thinking I ate them! It didn't occur to me until we were at the chocolate stand and I wanted to try a piece of chocolate realized that it had cane sugar in it and stopped. Then it dawned on me, the white bread! Fortunately it didn't amount to even a quarter of a slice but it's funny what slips by on a sunny afternoon at the farmers market.
