Hello!

Hi guys!

August is cleansing month. It hot, all the fruits and veggies are in full swing and let's face it motivation to cook is at it's lowest in the sweaty heat of August.

With that said I'll be doing my juice cleanse thru Sustain Juicery the second week of August. I'll be blogging the whole experience. If you've done a cleanse before great you can laugh at my discomfort, if you've never done one you'll know how it goes by the time I'm done. Exact details to follow.

Secondly and more importantly I'll be launching a group cleanse for all of you! Keep an eye out for all the information to start rolling in.

Client Testimonial!

I love my clients and recently I got this from a client who got married today! I thought I would put it up here.

Stephanie is well versed and passionate about nutrition.  She has given me an eye opening experience about the truth in most common day foods that common news flip flop their opinions on.  I've had a massive history of dieting, with all it's high and lows and never have felt as comfortable in my own body as I do now.  She taught me what was the best diet for me, Siobhan, instead of any fad diet out there.
Stephanie also helped me realize that as well as having healthy food to fuel your body, you also need healthy thoughts to fuel your mind and soul.  As a bride, all these components are very valuable in keeping me sane in the duration of the wedding planning process.  I learned very important tools to enrich my life from here on out.  Thank you, Stephanie, for opening my eyes to the world of good health! Namaste!

Tis the season

And by season I mean the summer cold season. It's sunny out and there's no sunglasses dark enough. The air is fresh and it's making your sore throat worse. People are out laughing and talking into the late hours and making your headache worse. Ah yes, the summer cold turning your fun loving self into a curmudgeonly cantankerous old fart.

I've got some tips to shorten that cold and get you back on your feet with out over dosing in antibiotics and chemical laden cough syrup. Step #1 open your mind.

After this month of working over 12 hours a day 6 days a week I finally got a day off and crashed. My body knew it was getting a day off and boy did it take the day off. All those plans to catch up went straight out the window as I curled up in bed with the last two Harry Potter movies and an entire day of cold combat at the ready.

1. The first thing you should know is garlic.

Raw garlic is natures antibiotic. If you have an infection or better yet are getting the tale tell signs of a cold smash some garlic and let it sit 10 minutes. Then eat. On the first day of my cold with glands swollen so large I could see them I did this and then swallowed the cloves with vitamin C tablets and spirulina tablets. Just like any other pill. Over the course of the day I took 6 cloves of garlic like this. Before I even went to bed my glands had reduced in size and by the next morning no sore throat.

"A simple recipe is to juice four cloves of garlic, two tomatoes, and a lemon to make a delicious antibacterial and antiviral drink. If you don't have a juicer, simply toss the ingredients into a blender and make a tomato and garlic soup. To either, just add some sea salt; it'll be delicious. If you have an infection, you can enjoy several of these drinks or soups each day to battle it away without the use of chemical antibiotics that are known to destroy our protective healthy bacteria - often in one fell swoop."

2. Salt water gargle.

Never underestimate the power of old remedies. This one works through osmosis.  Salt draws water out of things and during a cold your throat is storing bad bacteria and germs a warm salt water gargle draws it out of your throat exposing it to air and killing it. Yea!

3. Propolis

This stuff should always be in your medicine cabinet. This is a product of honey production by bees. It's the glue that holds the hives together and prevents mold, bacteria or other bad things from infecting the hive.

For us its:
Antibacterial
Anti fungal
Antioxidant and Immune system booster

However if you're allergic to bee's or honey this little guy most likely isn't for you

I get the spray, and follow the instructions.

4. Soup

You're body is busy fighting a cold. Don't stress it out by giving hard food, give it warm nutrient dense soups and let it focus on the fight!

A great nourishing soup is a stock of your choice ( I make chicken bone stock and keep it in the freezer) Dice up garlic, onions (spring onions work great!) and ginger. Simmer and drink like tea.

5. Tea

Tea is your friend. There are so many kinds out there and all of them have different ways to heal you. My favorite during a cold is Licorice tea. It eases coughs, soothes sore throats, helps colds and bronchitis by breaking down mucus and getting it out of the respiratory tract. It 'moves' digestion along helping the body release toxins and waste. It helps improve mood and reduce stress. I could keep going but that's enough for a cold!

The best part is you can't overdose on garlic and tea. Propolis won't destroy your good bacterial along with the bad, and there's nothing like a good bowl of soup when you're sick. So go ahead and start keeping other sick people awake with your fun!

New crazy thing I learned today!

So today I was reading about making cashew cheese and came across something amazing. Rejuvelac. Yep I know.

Rejuvelac is a fermented sprouted grain drink. It's used as a culture to make nut and seed cheeses.

I had no idea this even existed let alone how easy to make, and SOOOO healthy it is! Think about all the money you spend on probiotic foods, like yogurt or those little milk drinks, or pills, or even fermented veggies. Now think about how much one cup of whole grains cost, especially if you have a co-op bulk grain option. Add four cups of water, which you will drain and consume. You can use the grains twice, making 8 cups of rejuvelac. If you have a cup a day that's 8 days worth for the cost of one cup of grains.

It's not hard to make, and you save tons of money! This is a win win in my world!

Since I've just discovered this today I don't have any results yet, but I'm adding it to my list for today and I'll let you know how it goes.

Here is the website I'm using for this round. I have organic quinoa and buckwheat not sure where I'll start, I'll probably end up doing both and seeing the differences as I go :) you know for you guys ;)

Ahh!

Hello out there! I'm still in the thick of teaching many hours a day many days a week. I'll be back as soon as I can! In the mean time here's a quick recipe for roasted brussel spouts and chips.

Big brussel sprouts I'd say about 10 for a side for two.
One big clove of garlic
olive oil, salt and pepper

Cut the brussel sprouts in half and peel the outer leaves off. Place the sprouts and the leaves on a cookie sheet or pyrex

Smash the garlic clove and slice thin

toss all with the olive oil, salt and pepper.

Bake at 350 for 20 minutes, some of the little leaves will be crunchy take em out. Turn up to 400 for 10 minutes, check removing any more of the leaves that are crispy and flip the sprouts. Check every 10 minutes removing leaves as they get crispy until the sprouts have a nice char to them approx 40 minutes total.

Studio 64!

Mothers Day Tea
Hey Cats and Kittens!

I finally got internet back at the house, Yippie!

In other news the studio that I teach barre style fitness classes at is revamping. We're changing from a studio that was part of a franchise to an independent studio. What this means for me is that I along with a delightful lady named Mem get to change the program. We're developing a new system, taking classes all over LA, working with some amazing teachers. I can't wait for my iron yoga class, that's what I'm most looking forward to.

In the mean time I'm teaching almost everyday all day long. Scouting new teachers and training them. I've re-done some of the music for the studio and it's just amazing. I have so many friends that are musicians and it's great to be able to add a tune by them on a playlist. So many of the clients have been asking about the music it an added bonus to get my friends out there to people who would never have any exposure to them.

Add all that together and you get one busy lady!

I've got more exciting announcements to make so keep checking in. One of them involves both food and books... That should pretty much give it away lol.

Don't forget I'm always here with my Health Coaching program. Give me 6 months and I'll give you the rest of your life!!!
